The band to play an intimate gig back home before heading to Tokyo this October
Brilliant at Breakfast will embark on a mini tour dubbed “Travelling Carnival: From Java to Japan” in the third week of October 2012. The Yogyakarta, Indonesia-based indie pop group will play shows in Tokyo’s Koenji and Shibuya districts, renowned for their bustling subcultures and scenes, sharing the bill with remarkable Japanese indie, alternative, and shoegazing acts.
The tour will kick off its Yogyakarta leg with a warm-up gig on October 7th and a live acoustic session on a local radio station on the 14th. The band are collaborating with Indonesian illustrators Nurul Putri and Naomi Dame to create carnival-themed artwork to be displayed at the shows, which are co-organized by the collective Desire and Paperplane Recording in cooperation with local Japanese organizers.
Starting out in late 2008, Brilliant at Breakfast have been known to combine sweet pop tunes and quirky themes. They were recently featured in The Guardian’s Music Alliance Pact series, in which Indonesian online magazine Deathrockstar described them as “one of this country’s finest indie-pop/twee-pop bands.”
Last year saw the band release their debut full-length on Paperplane Recording (Indonesia) and Susy Records (Peru), tour Greater Jakarta to promote the album, and play their first overseas shows at Rockin’ the Region, Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, Singapore. They also have a digital EP on the US-based February Records and several compilations to their credit. (*)
